This work is a poem that conveys the spiritual world of Native Americans, accompanied by illustrations by Isamu Akino. Akino's powerful illustrations beautifully visualize the profound theme of the poem, "a sense of unity with the self, nature, and the universe."
Akino Isamu is a painter born in 1959; his mother is the painter Akino Fuku.
Akino has traveled and painted in India and Africa, experiences that have deeply influenced her work. Akino's paintings are characterized by a primitive, primordial touch that evokes a sense of vitality, resonating with the Native American worldview that is the theme of this picture book.
Akino's unique colors and brushstrokes depict the expression of one's existence, "I am a song," and the connection with the earth, "I walk here." This is a powerful and heartwarming book that will teach children to respect nature and life, and adults to reaffirm the connection between themselves and the world.
