Takeshiba Crab (Takeshiba Kanisuke) 1904-1989

As a resident kyogen composer at the Kabuki-za, he worked behind the scenes, beating the drums and other instruments.
After that, when the National Theater opened, he joined the performing arts department and began training the next generation of performers.

Takeshiba is known for his achievements as a leading expert on Kanteiryu, a style of calligraphy unique to Kabuki.
Through his many books, he worked hard to popularize Kanteiryu and pass on its traditions to future generations.
His representative works include "Kanteiryu Textbook" and "Kabuki Kanteiryu."

In recognition not only of his work as a Kanteiryu calligrapher but also of his many years of contributions to the world of Kabuki, he was awarded the Eiji Yoshikawa Cultural Award in 1987.
