Mitsuaki Iwago's photo collection "A Message from the Sea" is one of his early representative works, which was serialized in Asahi Graph in the 1970s and won the 5th Kimura Ihei Photography Award.
Inspired by Rachel Carson's The Seas Around Us, this book contains photographs of wildlife taken over a period of three years in oceans around the world.
The film was shot in a wide variety of locations, including California, Florida, the Caribbean, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Australia, Africa, and the Arctic, and captures a diverse range of animals and people, including fur seals, rockhopper penguins, the Asmat people, and musk oxen.
Of particular note was the footage of a flying flying squid filmed over the Indian Ocean, which was the first time such footage had been recorded in the world and caused a great academic sensation.
