The Silence and the Storm
First published in 1977 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Canadian artist Tom Thomson, "Tom Thomson: The Silence and the Storm" is a collection of works that pays tribute to his legendary and mysterious life, famously followed by his untimely death in a canoeing accident.
Now reprinted with a new binding, this reprint includes more than 25 previously unpublished paintings and a new introduction. Co-authors Canadian painter Harold Towne and art historian David P. Silcox were early associates of Thomson and the Group of Seven, and they recognize him as a masterful artist without cultural pretensions.
Thomson's masterpieces are faithfully reproduced, with over 80 of his famous oil sketches presented at the same size as the originals.
